Revealing buckling of an apparently flat monolayer of NaCl on Pt(111)

چکیده

Platinum is relatively reactive, compared to silver and copper, which prompted us study the growth structure of a thin insulating layer on Pt(111). We grew monolayer islands NaCl studied them with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) atomic force (AFM). STM images revealed square lattice we confirmed, via density functional theory (DFT) calculations, be Cl anions, similar other surfaces. Surprisingly, however, AFM appeared only resolve approximately two-thirds ions. DFT calculations showed that adsorption heights anions above surface have bimodal distribution in they are either 60 pm Na ionic plane or 40 lower. An electrostatic model shows this reproduces observations.

an investigation of the impact of self monitoring on langauge teachers motivational practice and its effect on learners motivation

the central purpose of this study was to conduct a case study about the role of self monitoring in teacher’s use of motivational strategies. furthermore it focused on how these strategies affected students’ motivational behavior. although many studies have been done to investigate teachers’ motivational strategies use (cheng & d?rnyei, 2007; d?rnyei & csizer, 1998; green, 2001, guilloteaux & d?...

effect of oral presentation on development of l2 learners grammar

this experimental study has been conducted to test the effect of oral presentation on the development of l2 learners grammar. but this oral presentation is not merely a deductive instruction of grammatical points, in this presentation two hypotheses of krashen (input and low filter hypotheses), stevicks viewpoints on grammar explanation and correction and widdowsons opinion on limited use of l1...

Anomalously fast kinetics of lipid monolayer buckling.

We reexamine previous observations of folding kinetics of compressed lipid monolayers in light of the accepted mechanical buckling mechanism recently proposed by L. Pocivavsek et al. [Science 320, 912 (2008)]. Using simple models, we set conservative limits on (a) the energy released in the mechanical buckling process and (b) the kinetic energy entailed by the observed folding motion. These lim...
